859,625. Electromagnetic switches; switch cases; arc-rupturing in switches. BROOKHIRST SWITCHGEAR Ltd. Nov. 7, 1958 [Nov. 21, 1957], No. 36259/57. Class 38 (5). A contactor has two sets of fixed and moving contacts in a separate enclosure for each phase. A moulding 11 for each phase is secured to a base 10 and carries four fixed contacts 12 . . . 15 each with a terminal screw 16. In the spaces between the contact pairs the mouldings 11 are ribbed at 17. A plate 34 carries a coil 31, armature 30, links 28 and a cross-bar 29 coupling two bell-crank levers 26 which operate a member 23a attached to the three contact carriers 23. Covers 20 are resiliently secured to the plate 34 by screws 35 and springs 37 so as to be pressed against the mouldings 11 when the plate 34 is secured on posts on the base 10. Carriers 23 are guided in holes 20a in the covers 20 and each has two saddles 22a with springs 24 biasing bridging contacts 21, 22. The bar 23a has extensions 23c which slide between guides 27 to ensure linear movement of the contacts. Projections 19 on the covers 20 close the ends of the compartments and a rib 25a between the contact pairs engages a part 25b on the cover to separate the contact sets. Auxiliary switches 39 are actuated by bars 38 attached to the member 23a. A single moulding may replace the three mouldings 11. The two contact sets of each phase may be connected in series or parallel and two such contactors may be used for reversing or for star-delta switching (Figs. 6 to 13, not shown).
