Abstract

859,328. Flow meters. EKSTROM, R. A. Dec. 22, 1958, No. 41365/58. Class 69(1). In a flow meter comprising a casing 15 adapted to be connected in a flow conduit and provided with exterior means for indicating the amount of flow, the casing 15 has an inner cavity 20 with a bottom inlet 16 and a top outlet 18, and a vane 21 is mounted for pivotal movement on a horizontal axis 24 at one side of the cavity between the inlet and outlet, the opposite side wall 31 of the cavity being arcuate shaped so as to curve away upwardly from the circular path described by the free edge of the vane 21 in its pivotal movement, a flange 36 projecting into the path of the vane to form a bottom stop therefor and a movable member 41 of the exterior indicating means being adapted to follow the movements of the vane. A flexible baffle 32 is provided to vary the distance from the free end of the vane 21 to the inside curvature of the housing 15, adjusting screws 33, 34, 35 being provided. The flange 36 forms part of the baffle. The vane 21 is secured to a cylindrical bearing member 22 pivotally mounted in a horizontal cylindrical groove 23 in the wall of the cavity 20, the member 22 having a pivot rod 24 projecting from each of its ends and supported by bearing means 26, 27 in the walls of the casing. The pivot rod 24 extends through the wall of the casing 15 and has an exterior gear train connection with the movable member 41 of the indicating means. Low friction sealing means 28 are provided in the opening for the pivot rod in the casing wall. In a modification shown in Fig. 6, a magnet 49 is carried on the shaft carrying the vane and coacts with an opposed magnet 54 mounted on a stub shaft 51. The stub shaft 51 actuates a pointer 41a through a gear train.
