[Also in Group XIII] A boiler furnace comprising a water jacket 1 surrounding a solid fuel space above a grate 3 has a liquid fuel burner 8 delivering horizontally into a space 11 enclosed by a jacket 10 within the combustion chamber and having a downwardly directed opening 12 into the combustion chamber. The vertical rear wall of the water jacket 10 forms the front wall of a down flow flue, and extends to the bottom of the outer water jacket 1, the jackets 1, 10 being connected near their lowest points. A water-filled baffle 29 connected into the circulation of the jacket 10 may divide the outlet passage 12, Fig. 3. The burner 8 may deliver at one end of the space 11, or the burner 8 may extend into the space 11, a baffle 30 closing that part of the upper end of the down passage 12 beyond the burner mouth, Fig. 5. The burner may be mounted below the axis of the cylindrical space. A second hot water supply is taken from a tank mounted above the combustion chamber jacket and heated by the circulation of the water from the jackets.
