Abstract

858,976. Washing granular materials. PATRMAN, F. May 30, 1958 [June 1, 1957], No. 17341/58. Class 82(2) In a mineral separation process using a heavy-liquid separating medium, the mineral before entering the separating bath is first washed with water and then with a rinsing liquid of a higher specific gravity than water. With several separating baths A and E (Fig. 1) the mineral is first washed with water in Section 1 of screen 10 and then successively washed on Sections 11 and 111 with rinsing liquid from bath E and bath A respectively, the rinsing liquid in Section 111 having a higher specific gravity than that in Section 11. Pumps P1 and P2 pump the rinsing liquid from the baths to the screen and each succeeding rinsing liquid has a higher specific gravity than the preceding rinse.
