Abstract
858,824. Cam mechanisms. UNIVERSAL WINDING CO. Oct. 31, 1958 [Nov. 18, 1957], No. 35071/58. Classes 80 (1) and 80 (3). A variable reciprocation is imparted to a rod 44 by means of a face cam 10 having a circuitous groove 28 cooperating with a pair of followers 31a, 31b on a slider 32, the latter being constrained to move in a track 48, the inclination of which is adjustable, and a pin 50 on the slider 32 cooperating with a transverse groove 52 in a block 54 secured to the rod 44. The cam plate 10 rotates about an axis 25 and the groove 28 has a re-entrant portion 29 to afford clearance for one follower 31a whilst the other 31b is engaged in the groove 28 and vice versa. The width across the portion 29 must be such as to allow one follower to enter the groove 28 proper before the other disengages therefrom. A variable component of the reciprocation of slider 32 in track 48 is obtained by rotation of a disc 46 carrying the track 48 in a supporting frame 40.
