Abstract

857,840. Cutting-appliances. EASTMAN MACHINE CO. Oct. 14, 1959 [Nov. 17, 1958], No. 34880/59. Class 31 (2). [Also in Group XXV] A cutting-appliance comprises a base-plate 16 movable on a supporting surface under the work, e.g. carpeting material, to be cut, and a standard 15 mounted on the base-plate and supporting an electric motor 10 and a circular knife 14 driven thereby, the standard being hingedly connected to the base-plate to enable different bevel edges to be cut on the work, the hinged connection comprising a hinge pin 21 connected to the foot 20 of the standard and having screw-threaded end portions 24, Fig. 6, engaging screw-threaded blocks 27 secured to the underside of the base-plate, the portions 24 being locked in adjusted position by means of set screws 29. The intermediate portion of the hinge pin is semi-circular in cross-section and is provided with graduations 30 co-operating with a guide line 31 on an adjacent block 27. The foot 20 of the standard is provided with an extension 26 which, when the standard is in vertical position, engages in a recess in the base-plate. The work is positioned by means of a gauge of angular cross-section having a lower flange 35, Fig. 1, adjustably secured to a cover-plate 36 secured to the top face of the base-plate and an upper work-guiding flange 37 provided with an extension in which a bevel wheel 48 is adjustably mounted.
