Abstract
857,625. Machinery guards. HIGGS, D. J. March 26, 1959 [Nov. 6, 1958], No. 35679/58. Class 80 (4). In a rubber or like mill wherein a scraper blade a for a roller c is pivoted at b so that it may be raised from its vertical operative position to an inoperative position (shown in chain-dotted lines), the edge of the blade is guarded when inoperative by a roller g which moves with the blade but is controlled by cam surfaces in fixed members h at each end of the blade so that the guard roller is moved clear of the blade as the latter reaches its vertical operative position. The ends f of the roller g are carried in slots e in arms d rigid with the blade a. Each end f also engages a cam surface concentric with the pivot b so that as the blade is lowered the surface j holds the end f in a notch at the base of the slot e until an increased-radius part k is reached, whereupon the end f moves out of the notch and is caused by the still-moving arm d to ride up a slot i in the member h towards the position shown wherein the roller g is clear of the edge of the blade a.
