Abstract
857,089. Change-speed gear. BORGWARNER CORPORATION. Sept. 16, 1957 [Sept. 25, 1956], No. 29157/57. Class 80 (2). An epicyclic change-speed gear comprises two planetary gear trains 12, 13 having run 19, 23, planet 21, 25 and ring gears 20, 24, the run gears 19, 23 being interconnected, the first planet carrier 22 being connected to the second ring gear 24, the second planet carrier 26 being connected to the driven shaft 11 and the driving shaft 10 being connectable to one element of the first gear train. The shaft 10 may be selectively connected to the first ring gear 20 by an hydraulically actuated friction clutch 15, or to the first planet carrier 22 by a similar clutch 14. The two clutches 14, 15 and three friction brakes 16, 17, 18 acting on the three elements of the first train may be engaged in pairs to provide low, reduced, direct, overdrive and reverse speeds.
