Abstract
In a process for the continuous preparation of a linear polyamide or polyester, a liquid containing the monomers is successively led through a number of zones in which such pressures and temperatures are maintained that at the transfer <PICT:0856915/IV(a)/1> of the reaction liquid from one zone to the next one a strong evaporation of a constituent of the reaction liquid takes place, characterized in that at this transfer, but before the evaporation takes place to a considerable degree, the reaction liquid is mixed with at least an equal weight of reaction liquid which has already been subjected to the evaporation process. Specified polyamides are those derived from diamines and dicarboxylic acids and specified polyesters are those derived from glycols HO(CH2)nOH where n is 2 to 10 and terephthalic acid or ester-forming derivatives thereof. In the example, an aqueous solution of hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid containing acetic acid as stabilizer is supplied to the heated high pressure vessel 1, being removed via the discharge line 5 to the circulation line 8 where it is mixed with polycondensation product from the low pressure vessel 9, the mixture being led to the heated low pressure vessel and thence to the heated after-condensation device 15.
