Abstract

856,566. Stud and socket fastenings; clips. UNITED-CARR FASTENER CORPORATION. Jan. 3, 1958 [Jan. 3, 1957], No. 361/58. Class 44. A fastening device for assembly into a panel opening 16 to retain an article in assembly with the panel 14 comprises a strip of resilient material bent to provide a panel engaging means 20 for extending from one side of the panel through the opening to engage the other side of the panel, a laterally extending connecting portion 22 extending from the upper end of the panel engaging means to a fulcrum portion 24 for engaging the said one side of the panel in laterally spaced relation to the opening, the strip being reversely bent to provide a resilient outside retaining arm 26 extending from the fulcrum portion over and beyond the fulcrum portion, connecting portion and the upper end of the panel engaging means for retaining one article 12 against the said one side of the panel on the opposite side of the opening to the fulcrum portion. The means 20 has a pair of resilient portions 30 which provides abrupt shoulders 32 for engagement with the rear of the panel and the retaining arm 26 is provided with an upwardly rounded portion to receive the article 12. The device is assembled to a panel by passing the leg 20 through the opening 16 so that the shoulders 32 engage the rear surface of the panel with the fulcrum 24 and the end 28 of the arm engaging the front surface; differences in thickness of the panel are taken up by the resilience of the connecting portion 22. When the article 12 is inserted in the fastening device the end 28 is raised from the panel so that vibration and rattling is prevented. A plurality of rounded portions 34 can be provided if desired.
