Abstract

855,291. Winding strip materials. ROTA COTA PTY Ltd. March 26, 1958 [March 27, 1957], No. 9697/58. Class 99(2). A strip material 9, Fig. 2, having a pile surface is helically wrapped on a cylindrical base 6 whilst a blast of air is passed between the mating edges of the convolutions through a nozzle 16 to force the pile away from the edges of the strip during winding. The machine comprises a headstock 2, Fig. 1, carrying a spindle to which a chuck 5 is attached. The cylindrical base 6 is gripped in the chuck 5 and supported in a tube 7 mounted on a saddle 3 which moves on guides 1 and is actuated by leadscrew 4. The saddle 3 carries a roll of the strip material 9, which is wrapped on via guides 12 and tensioner 11, and also carries a blower 13 driven by a motor 14 to provide an air blast through tube 15 to nozzle 16. The cylindrical base may be coated with an adhesive prior to the wrapping of the material.
