Class 107 A screed structure for surfacing pavement materials such as concrete comprises a surfacing member carried by a supporting structure, the surfacing member being adjustable to provide a gable crowned surface. As shown in Fig. 1 the supporting structure is formed of front and rear plates 18 and 19 having the surfacing plate 15 at their lower edges. The supporting structure is divided vertically at its middle point to provide a gap 35 and, by means of rod 46 having oppositely threaded portions 47 (see Fig. 7) which engage in nuts 44 mounted between pairs of flanges 43, one pair being mounted on the supporting structure on each side of the gap 35, the gap 35 may be increased to flex the surfacing plate 15 to gable crowned shape, or to close the gap and provide a flat surfacing plate. The surfacing plate has upstanding flanges at its forward and rear edges, and these flanges are slotted at 36, opposite gap 35, and if desired also at other points 37 to allow the plate 15 to be flexed. The outer parts of the supporting structure may also carry shoes 15a connected at their inner ends to the outer ends of the plate 15, the outer ends of these shoes, which rest on forms during movement of the machine, being adjustable vertically with respect to the supporting structure to raise or lower the whole of the plate 15. Forwardly projecting baffle plates 33 limit lateral movement of the wet concrete or other surfacing material during operation of the machine. Specification 854,942 is referred to.
