A machine for forming rounded tenons comprises a ring 3 slowly rotated by a motor M, a connecting rod 6 supporting the tool spindle 8 and pivoted to an inner part 3a of the ring, a slide 23 moveable on ways 21, 22 and rotatably carrying a forked member 26 on a shaft 25, a bearing 19 on the rear end of the spindle 8 embraced by the forked member 26 and a template 37 carried by the member 26 and co-operating with two adjustable pins 42. As the ring rotates, the straight part 37a of the template slides along the left-hand pin 42 and the top straight part of the tenon is cut until an annular gap 32 between the semi-circle 37b on the template and the periphery of shaft 25 comes over the pin 42. The pin can then pass through the gap 32 and the template, member 26 and tool spindle move through 180 degrees so that one rounded end of the tenon is cut. When the straight part 37a of the template engages under the right-hand pin 42, the template and tool move in a straight line to cut the bottom straight part of the tenon until the gap 32 comes below the pin 42 and the tool can again move through 180 degrees to come back to its initial position. The tool spindle 8 is driven by a belt 11 from a motor 12 mounted on a pivoted support 13 which is connected to the tool spindle by a rod 16 so it moves with the tool spindle and maintains the belt tension. The thickness of the tenon is varied by means of a screwed shaft 34 which, through a lever 32, varies the vertical position of the bearing 19 within the fork 27 and the width of the tenon is varied by adjusting the pins 42 nearer each other or further apart by a shaft 41 having screw threads of opposite hand.
