Abstract

The printing and dyeing of textile fibres and materials made from high molecular weight polyesters of aromatic dicarboxylic acids is effected by printing or padding with printing pastes or padding liquors containing vat or dispersion dyestuffs and alkali salts of sulphonated castor oil or of sulphonated olive oil, the sulphonated oil being present in amounts of at least 80g. of a 50% by weight solution per kg. of printing paste or per litre of padding solution, and subsequently subjecting the materials to temperatures of about 190-220 DEG C. for 30-120 secs. In a modification, the printing pastes or padding liquors contain, instead of the sulphonated oil, the same quantities of other wetting agents, e.g. sodium ricinoleate, alkyl sulphonates, alkylnaphthalene sulphonates, alkylphenylpolyglycol ethers, alkyl-pyridine hydrochloride derivatives or sulphonated oleic acid amides. Preferably, the dyestuffs are yat dyestuffs in the form of their vat acids (leuco compounds), and the high molecular weight polyester is a polyethylene glycol terephthalate. A thickening agent or agents may be added to the printing paste or padding liquor, and an intermediate drying process may be carried out after the printing or padding. Examples are given.
