Abstract
853,273. Fluid pressure blasting devices. HAYDEN-NILOS Ltd. July 10, 1959 [Aug. 15, 1958], No. 26244/58. Class 9(1). In a sealed infusion tube as described in Specification 853,272, the water inlet and outlet cross passages are formed in a single extension 11 of the tube 12 and the outer end of the seal is surrounded by a ferrule 23 and retracted as the seal is inflated until at least one passage 25 in the wall of the ferrule is uncovered and acts as a relief valve. The effect of the shot blast is similar to that described in the aforementioned specification, whether the outlet end of the tube extension is anchored or not, and in a modification, Fig. 5, to prevent damage to the seal, a ferrule 51 with a non-perforated wall is screwed onto a union 38, between the tube and the extension, and allows the inner end of the seal to move lengthwise within it. In the modified form a nipple 55 may be screwed into the outlet end of the extension to increase the velocity of the water issuing into the bore hole, thus making the tube suitable for impulse infusion and enabling greater pressures to be applied, in which case the seal is reinforced longitudinally to withstand the increased pressure.
