Abstract

853,257. Ship's winch. WINTER MOTERENUND APPARATEBAU E. Nov. 5, 1958, No. 35524/58. Class 78 (5). Drums 1, 2 (Fig. 1) are loosely mounted upon and selectively driven by shaft 3, being clutched thereto at 7 or 8 by clutch piece 6 and selectively braked at 17. Clutch piece 6 and brakes 17 are carried by lever 4 pivoted at 5 and operated by piston 11 of hydraulic cylinder 9 controlled by handle 18, the piston and lever being resiliently coupled at 12, 13. One drum is thus clutched and unbraked whilst the other drum is unclutched and braked. Similarly, in Fig. 3, drums 1, 2 are clutched to shaft by clutch piece 6 and braked at 35, 36. The control is remote and is by an hydraulic transmission receiver system, whereby handle 30 selectively activates hydraulic transmitters 31, 32 which operate clutch piece 6 through respective hydraulic receivers 33, 34 and, in turn, clutch piece 6 operates selectively brakes 35, 36 through hydraulic transmitters 39, 40 and hydraulic receivers 35, 36. Additionally the brakes may be operated by pedals 37, 38.
