Abstract

853,001. Stud and socket fastenings. UNITEDCARR FASTENER CORPORATION. May 6, 1958 [May 6, 1957], No. 14523/58. Class 44. A fastener for securing a member 18 to an apertured support 22, e.g. a chair seat to a slotted tubular frame, comprises a metal base 10 which is adapted to be secured to the member 18 by a screw 16 and is provided with a rigid extension 12 at right angles to the base to engage the slot 24 in the support. The extension 12 consists of two lateral arms 26 joined by an integral cross-bar 28 so as to provide a tongue 34 which is, integrally joined to the proximal edge of the said cross-bar and is first bent at 38 and then re-bent to form an inwardly inclined jaw surface 40 for co-operating with the wall of the slot 24. The angular position of the arms is made more rigid by rib portions 30 pressed out of the metal and by outwardly-turned flanges 32 at the inner sides of the arms 26. The base 10 is preferably provided with anchoring prongs 20. The fastener is intended to be withdrawn by a screwdriver operating as a pry-bar.
