Abstract
Saturated elastomeric copolymers of monoolefins are cured with organic peroxides having one oxygen attached to a tertiary carbon atom and which are stable below 200 DEG F. and decompose above 275 DEG F. Copolymers of ethylene with propylene or butene-1 are specified and the peroxide may be dicumyl or t-butyl peroxide, cumene hydroperoxide or t-butyl perbenzoate. Optional ingredients are alkaline or neutral, inorganic fillers of particle size no larger than 1 micron (e.g. carbon black or a metal oxide), plasticizers, lubricants, antioxidants and low molecular weight polymers (e.g. polyisobutylene, polyethylene, polybutadiene or an organopolysiloxane).
