Abstract
851,394. Semi-conductor switching circuits. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Oct. 17, 1958 [Oct. 21, 1957], No. 33194/58. Class 40(6). [Also in Group XXXV] A switching system for controlling the current in a load 70 by means of a periodic signal applied to a pair of terminals 10, 11, comprises a transformer 21-23 having rectifiers 31, 36 connected in series opposition to a hyperconductive diode 35 and a resistor 34, and a parallel resistor-capacitor combination 32, 33 connected across the winding 22 and rectifier 31. A supply terminal 61 is connected to the junction 66 of rectifier 36 and diode 35 through a rectifier 63. A similar circuit is connected to the winding 23. An A.C. supply connected to terminals 61, 62 is normally blocked by either rectifiers 63, 64 or diodes 45, 35 respectively until an A.C. signal of sufficient magnitude is applied through terminals 10,11 to the primary winding 21 when the diodes 35, 45 break down and permit current flow to the load 70. An alternative arrangement is described in the Specification for use with a pulsating D.C. signal.
