Abstract
A conjugated diolefin is thermally copolymerized with an alkenyl substituted aromatic compound in the presence of vinylcyclohexene as solvent, the monomers being present in a ratio giving a copolymer having a diolefin content of at least 65%. Other specified monomers may be present, in particular allyl alcohol (Example III) or another diene (Example V). The products may be liquid or solid and are unsaturated copolymers of 1,4 structure and are soluble in certain organic solvents. The copolymers may be cured by heating (optionally with cobalt naphthenate), may be cross-linked by the use of peroxides, or may be reacted with peracetic acid to give polyepoxides which may be cured with polyamines. Applications specified are as adhesives, and as coatings for wood or metal, such as tin.
