Abstract

850,601. Sawing. TARPEN ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. June 5, 1958 [May 16, 1957], No. 15544/57. Class 145. A mechanically-operated hand saw comprises a slotted saw guide 4 extending from a gearbox 2, a crank 13 reciprocating the blade 6 through a connecting rod 14 and a crosshead 15 pivoted to the blade at 16 and a power input shaft 24 which is parallel to the line of reciprocation of the saw. The shaft 24 incorporates a flywheel 22 and is connected to a flexible drive or to an electric motor forming a unitary part of the tool ; in the latter case, the flywheel also forms a fan. The bevel gear 9 is connected to its shaft 11 through a resilient bush 12 and a tooth 19 is provided to enable the tool body to grip the workpiece. When the pivot pin 16 is removed, the blade can be withdrawn by sliding it along until the pin 8 comes into the open end of the slot 8a.
