Abstract

850,380. Electrodeposition of lead dioxide electrolytic production of perchlorates. PENNSALT CHEMICALS CORPORATION, Dec. 12, 1956 [Dec. 14, 1955], No. 37937/56. Class 41 Lead dioxide is electrodeposited directly on an oxide-free tantalum body other than a tantalum grid to form an electrode, e.g. an anode for electrochemical processes such as the production of perchlorates from chlorates. Typically the tantalum body is a rod or sheet and is freed from oxide by abrasion and a lead dioxide layer of at least 1/16 inch is anodically deposited from aqueous lead salt solutions, e.g. acid lead nitrate, alkaline lead tartrate, and non-alkaline lead perchlorate solutions, as described in Specification 850,379 or a bath containing per litre 48 gms. lead oxide, 50 gms. Rochelle salt, and 25 gms. sodium hydroxide. The lead dioxide electrode may have a copperover-silver contact applied to it as described in Specification 797,644.
