Abstract

<PICT:0850080/IV(a)/1> A yarn to be stretched is drawn through a heating jacket having two zones 21, 23, the first being heated to a higher temperature than the second, which is heated to the treatment equilibrium temperature. Running yarns 3, 5 which are inserted through a slot 17 in the jacket by means of a closure 7 shaped to fit closely in the slot, are heated by radiation from brass plates 35 and 49, 51 in contact with heating elements 33 and 43, 45 respectively. The zones are thermally insulated on all sides from a casing 19 by insulating blocks and from each other by an air space 31. A heated gas, e.g. hot air or steam may be injected into one or both zones. Specification 797,051 is referred to.
