Abstract
849,811. Boots and lasts. BRITISH BATA SHOE CO. Ltd. Dec. 24, 1956 [Dec.22 1955], No. 36719/55. Classes 17(1) and 17(2) In making a child's shoe having its sole extended over the upper at the heel, and if desired at the toe, the leather upper 20-22 is butt jointed at the heel and closed by a zig-zag seam. The upper is turned in over a leather insole 23 and is cemented to it, a strip filler 24 is provided and a sole 32-34 is cemented in position with the aid of a compressed-air shaped bag cushion. The upper is flattened crosswise from underneath the heel to the top of the back and if desired also at the toe. The sole 32 with its extensions 33, 34 is thickened at 40 to form a heel and may be moulded with varying thicknesses along its length. The shoe is made on an extendible last, Fig. 9, having a vertical flat surface 27 at the heel and a flattened steeply inclined surface 28 at the toe. The bottom 29 is convex.
