Abstract
849,453. Electron beam apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 13, 1956 [Dec. 13, 1955], No. 38105/56. Class 39(1). An electron D.C. accelerator providing an emission of electrons over a wide field or zone, has a hollow anode 23, Fig. 1, forming a continuation of the insulating envelope 13, the anode being funnel-shaped with a flattened cross-section and closed by an electron transmitting elongated window 14. The beam of electrons is oscillated across the window by magnetic coils. The anode has flat parallel walls 24, Fig. 3, and curved side walls 25 and is supported by ribs 28. The window 34, Fig. 5, is seated in a frame 31 and is retained by a collar 35. The window 34 may be preformed to an inwardly bowed shape or it may assume such shape under the vacuum conditions. The window 34 may be of stainless steel and the frame 31 and collar 35 of copper or stainless steel, the parts being sealed together with gold or silver, or gold or silver alloys, as brazing material, or the window may be of titanium and the other parts of stainless steel with silver, or alloys of silver with copper, manganese or nickel, as brazing material. The anode 23 is of stainless steel. A mounting collar 36 may or may not be provided. Specifications 721,235 and 836,038 are referred to.
