Abstract

A composition comprising a mixture of a phosphorus-containing polypropylene, or an ethylene-propylene copolymer which polymer contains at least 50% amorphous polymer and at least 0,5 mole of combined propylene per mole of combined ethylene, and wherein the phosphorus is present as phosphorus groups, and a minor amount of an oxide of a polyvalent metal, is vulcanised by heating the mixture to an elevated temperature. The metal oxide may be lead, zinc, antimony, aluminium, iron, or magnesium oxide, or lead dioxide. The composition may also contain accelerators such as mercaptobenzothiazole, antioxidants, and fillers such as carbon black, kaolin, titanium dioxide, barium sulphate, or hydrogenated resin. The compositions may be made into sheets, gaskets, shockabsorbers, or extruded on to wires or cables.
