Abstract
848,417. Making moulds. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 18, 1957 [Jan. 21, 1956], No. 1935/57. Class 87(2). A mould for use in lost-wax casting comprising a plurality of parts which cooperate to form a mould cavity, a channel connecting the top surface of the mould with its cavity, and a chamber communicating with the mould cavity through a narrow passage, said chamber being such that as wax is being poured into the mould, communication from the chamber to the ambient atmosphere is provided only by the gap between the contacting mould parts. The mould half 21, Fig. 6, has two such chambers 22, 23 into which air escapes over contact surfaces 24, 25, respectively between two halves of the mould from mould cavity 8, when the mould is filled through inlet orifice 9. The two chambers 11, 12 of mould half 4, Fig. 2, are connected with the cavity 8 by air flow passages formed by slots 13, 14 in the contact surfaces between the mould halves. Passages 16, 17 are also provided in the mould halves connecting chambers 11, 12 respectively, with the neck 10 of the inlet so that these chambers are also filled with molten wax and shape inserts for subsequent use in the cavity 8 so that a comparatively small volume of air is required to be removed therefrom.
