Abstract
847,614. Electrodeposition. SMITH, G., and MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. Dec. 13, 1957 [Dec. 14, 1956], No. 38257/56. Class 41 A process for making a metallic endless band, e.g. of copper or nickel, by electro-deposition on the electrically conductive peripheral surface of a cylinder 4 of a width at least equal to the desired band width, while the cylinder is being rotated, the band being removed from the cylinder by exerting rolling pressure at 26 on the surface of the band. The cylinder 4 is of metal and its peripheral surface may be chromium or may be coated with powdered graphite. A perforated band may be produced by employing a cylinder 4 having holes drilled in its peripheral surface, the holes being filled with wax, or with aluminium pins the heads of which are anodized, or with pins having a paint or printing ink coating on their heads. The Provisional Specification describes also employing a cylinder made of, or coated with, a readily fusible metal, e.g. Wood's metal, which is removed by heating after the electro-depositing step, and the cylinder may be several times the width of the desired band, the electrodeposit being divided up prior to rolling pressure being applied to remove the separate bands.
