Abstract
847,359. Generating combustion products under pressure. PAULECKA, V. H. Aug. 24, 1956, No. 26012/56. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XXVI] A toroidal combustion chamber forming part of a jet-propulsion engine (see Group XXVI) extends between, and rotates with, the inner stages of a contra-rotating centripetal compressor and a contra-rotating outward-flow turbine. Wedge-shaped inlet ports 140 for compressed air are intercalated with wedgeshaped discharge ports 148 for the combustion gases. Stiffening ribs 23 extend between the outer wall 2 of the combustion chamber and an air jacket (not shown). A lining 157 of heatresistant alloy is provided. Fuel nozzles 150 are supplied with fuel through pipes 132 and a duct 130 within a compressor shaft, and the cable for the ignition plugs passes through a hollow turbine shaft. In addition to the jacket air, air by-passes the combustion chamber through a duct 85 and also through by-pass ports 161 which give direct access to the discharge ports 148, and ports 167 which give direct communication from the inlet ports 140 to the turbine.
