Abstract

847,327. Feeding metal strip. WEAN EQUIPMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 25, 1958 [March 3, 1958], No. 30644/58. Class 83 (4). Apparatus for operating on, e.g. punching or shearing strip, has co-operating tools on opposite sides of the strip, one of the tools moving in a circular path and the other gener. ally along the feed path of the strip, first grippers secured to the tools which grip and advance the strip as the tools move through a portion of their paths, second grippers reciprocated along the feed path and gripping with less force than the first grippers and an adjustable drive for the second grippers so that the second grippers advance or retract the strip by a predetermined amount when the first grippers release the strip. The upper tool 17 is mounted on a frame 16 carried on continuously rotated eccentrics 15. The lower tool 19 is guided in slots 18 in the frame 16 and is carried on arms 20 pivotally mounted on the shaft 14 of the lower eccentric 15. The second grippers 47, 51 are mounted on a carriage 43 reciprocated on guides 44 by a connecting rod 42 carried by a threaded crank pin on a shaft rotated by an arm 36 secured to the frame 16. The rod 42 can be adjusted radially to either side of the centre of the driving shaft to vary the amount and direction of movement of the second grippers 47, 51. The grippers are tensioned by pneumatic cylinders 23, 54 so that the first over-ride the second.
