Abstract

846,825. Change-speed gear. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. Dec. 12, 1958 [July 14, 1958], No. 40144/58. Class 80 (2). A change-speed gear comprises two shafts Z, D geared to rotate in the same direction, the shafts being parallel to but at unequal distances from a third shaft X having axially displaceable gears 23, 31, 43 meshable with gears 42, 34, 22 or 53, 45, 33<SP>1</SP> on the shafts Z and D to provide a plurality of ratios. An input shaft C drives a free cluster 24, 32, the gear 32 driving a gear 39 of a free cluster 39, 35 on shaft D, gears 24 or 35 being engaged by a sliding gear 41 to drive the shaft X in forward or reverse direction. The shafts Z and D are geared together by an idler A or a chain-drive and shaft D serves as an output-shaft. A shift lever 52 pivots about axes a-a and b-b to select and engage selector forks 43b, 31b and 23b for ratio changes, and a second lever 54a pivots about c-c to engage forward and reverse fork 41a. The C, D, X, Z and A may interchange as input and output shafts.
