Abstract
6, 7-Dihydro-5H-dibenz [C,e]-azepine and its 6-alkyl derivative are made by electrolysis of an acid solution of diphenimide and conversion to the allyl derivative, if required, by treatment with an allyl halide, e.g. allyl bromide. Preferably a lower alcohol or water-miscible ether is also added to the electrolyte. In examples, the catholyte consists of a dilute solution of diphenimide in dioxane or ethylene glycol monomethyl ether mixed with an aqueous solution of sulphuric acid in ethanol.
