Abstract

846,423. Key locks. YALE & TOWNE MFG. CO. Feb. 12, 1959 [March 28, 1958], No. 9989/58. Class 44 In a lock of the kind comprising a bolt 9 slidably mounted in a hollow body 7 having gated security levers 14 pivotally mounted within the body, the bolt is prevented from being forced from the operative to the inoperative position by the engagement of a talon 12 secured to the bolt within the gates of the security levers and the addition of a spring loaded blocking member 20 which is slidable at right angles to the direction of movement of the bolt and acts as a positive stop at the end of the bolt when the bolt is in the operative position. The blocking member 20 is of L-or T- shaped section and is loaded by a compression spring 21 interposed between it and an abutment 17. A pin 22 is rigidly fixed to one leg of the member 20 the other leg having a slot 24 surrounding a pin 25 fixed to the body 7. Movement of the blocking member into or from engagement with the end of the bolt 9 is effected by a cam-like surface on the security lever engaging the pin 22. The inclusion of the blocking member is particularly advantageous when the security levers are manufactured from a thermoplastic material such as nylon, as described in Specification 846,422.
