Abstract

A hollow article such as a fire-extinguisher casing is lined with a thermoplastic resin by treating the inner surface of the article to present a smooth surface, applying the resin in powder or liquid form or as an emulsion on to said surface by spraying through the nozzle of a pipe adapted to reciprocate vertically inside the container while rotating the article alternately in opposite directions on a longitudinal axis, and then heat treating the lining by heating the container. A suitable resin is polythene; the surface may be cleaned before application by means of shot-blasting, and pre-heated; and the coating may also be applied externally after cleaning the surface and optionally spraying with zinc.
