Abstract
845,909. Radar. WESTINGHOUSE AIR BRAKE CO. May 27, 1957 [June 25, 1956], No. 16715/57. Class 40(7). [Also in Group XXX] The length of a railway vehicle (or group of vehicles) is measured by integrating- its speed, determined by Doppler-effect radar, for the time it takes to pass a point. In Fig. 1 the vehicle speed given by the output of unit 9, fed from a conventional radar, is taken to an integrator 10 via relay contacts a for the time during which insulated track sections 1T, 2T are simultaneously bridged by the vehicle; the integrator is self resetting via contacts b. In another embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown) the Doppler beat frequency is fed to a frequency divider and cycle-counting circuit which may be a chain of relays actuating indicating lights. The loading of sidings may be ascertained by using the invention in conjunction with the circuit arrangement given in Specification 845,017 Fig. 3 (not shown).
