Abstract
845,671. Converting. HACKBRIDGE & HEWITTIC ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and GLEN, J. June 10, 1958 [June 28, 1957], No. 20518/57. Class 38 (2). A frequency-changing arrangement for supplying current to the heating coil H of an induction furnace comprises a transformer T1 having a multiphase secondary system feeding a pair of grid-controlled rectifiers each of which has as many anodes as there are phases in the supply, corresponding anodes being connected in parallel and the cathodes being connected to an autotransformer T2 connected to the heating coil. The mid point of the transformer T2 is connected to the neutral point of the secondary winding system and the grids are controlled by voltages derived through a transformer T3 from a phase-displacement circuit C3, R3 across the transformer T2. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the rectifiers each have six anodes supplied from a double star secondary winding system with an interphase reactor connecting the star points. In a further modification four rectifiers are utilized, the cathodes being connected to two primary windings of a H.F. transformer replacing the transformer T2. In starting, closure of contacts CC allows a previously charged capacitor C to discharge and to initiate oscillations.
