In a closed loop control system for positioning an object, the control signal is applied through an amplifier, phase advancer, limiter, and phase retarder, arranged in cascade, to control a servomotor. In the arrangement described an electric signal corresponding to a desired attitude of an aircraft is applied, in opposition with a signal derived from a position gyro on the craft, to an amplifier feeding a phase advance network, a limiter and a phase lag network in cascade. The overall transfer function of the three latter units is unity unless the signal exceeds the limit of the limiter, in which case the arrangement improves stability. The output signal is applied through a second amplifier to energize an electro-hydraulic valve controlling an hydraulic jack which operates a control surface to correct the attitude of the aircraft. A position feedback signal derived from operation of the jack is applied to the input of the second amplifier.
