Abstract
An alumina-silica gel is produced by mixing kaolin with a Na or K compound and calcining the mixture, the said compound being such that a Na- or K-Al, silicate results, then dissolving in acid to bring the pH below 4 (preferably about 2), whereafter the pH is brought to 5 or above (preferably 7-10), in which condition the solution gels. The following features are preferred:- (a) calcination temperature about 800 DEG C.; (b) aqueous sulphuric or hydrochloric acid is used; (c) use of NaOH, KOH, Na2CO3, K2CO3.
