Abstract

845,541. Two-part couplings. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. April 4, 1957 [Jan. 11, 1956], No. 1003/56. Addition to 750,482. Class 38(1). A socket connector 10 for co-operation with a plug connector 1, e.g. on a kettle, incorporates a shutter mechanism according to the parent Specification. The socket comprises a two-part insulating body 12, 13, the part 13 having an extension 20 extending into the cup-shaped part 12, and carrying a rearwardly-projecting flexible tube 19 through which a cable passes and is engaged by a conventional cord grip in the connector. The extension 20 carries "live" sockets 25 and an earth socket consisting of leaf springs 26a, 26b, the lower one 26b of which is adapted to be depressed by the earth pin 4 so that a plate 40 thereon'distorts a spring 33 which in turn operates a shutter 30 pivoted between the sockets 25.
