Abstract
844,466. Tubular heat exchangers; headers. WELLINGTON TUBE WORKS Ltd. Sept. 3, 1958. [Sept. 18, 1957], No. 29356/57. Classes 64(3) and 123(2) Hollow stays b extend from one side to the other through the interior of a header for a tubular heat exchanger, and screwthreaded plugs d close the stay ends at one side of the header. The stay ends at the other side of the header are adapted for the attachment thereto of heat exchange tubes c; communication between the tubes and header being effected through holes e in the stays. The plugged ends of the stays are enlarged in the manner shown, the holes e being formed in these enlarged portions. The tubes c may be expanded and/or welded into the stay ends and may be fitted with gilled sleeves f of a metal such as aluminium, the end of each stay being adapted to receive a short length of the sleeve.
