Abstract

A synthetic resinous composition comprises, per 100 parts thereof, 10 to 40 parts of rosin or a derivative thereof and 90 to 60 parts of a rubber and-rosin material comprising, per 100 parts of the material, 10 to 40 parts of an emulsion polymerized synthetic rubber containing not less than 95% of polymerized butadiene and not more than 5% of a styrene copolymerized therewith and 90 to 60 parts of a synthetic rosin aqueous emulsion copolymer of a mixture of 25 to 90% of a styrene and 75 to 10% of acrylonitrile, at least 5% of the styrene-acrylonitrile rosin having been prepared by graft polymerization in admixture with the latex of the synthetic rubber. Rosin derivatives specified are hydrogenated, dehydrogenated, polymerized, disproportionated and esterified rosins. The styrene used in the rubber and/or rosin may be styrene itself which may be replaced wholly or in part by alpha-methyl styrene or vinyl toluene. The products may be formed into shaped articles by injection moulding.
