Abstract

Symmetrical compounds of the formula: <FORM:0843194/IV(b)/1> wherein m is at least 2 (2 to 4 being exemplified) and R1 and R2 represent alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl or heterocyclic groups or may be joined to form with the nitrogen atom a heterocyclic group such as pyrrolidino, piperidino, morpholino and quinolino, are prepared by reacting a reactive dimetal acetylide with a compound of the formula <FORM:0843194/IV(b)/2> where X is a reactive halogen. The process may be conducted in an inert solvent in which the dimetal acetylide is first prepared by reacting acetylene with e.g. an alkali metal or a hydride or amide thereof. The alkynes may be converted into corresponding alkenes, acid addition salts and quaternary ammonium salts. The compounds may be used as blood pressure lowering agents.
