Abstract

The invention comprises 2-methyl-3-o-tolyl-4-quinazolone and acid addition salts thereof, the preparation thereof by condensing N-acetyl anthranilic acid with ortho-toluidine and, if desired, converting the product into its acid addition salts, and also pharmaceutical compositions containing the products (see Group VI). The products have hypnotic properties.ALSO:Pharmaceutical hypnotic compositions comprise 2-methyl-3-O-tolyl-4-quinazolone and acid-addition salts thereof, singly or together with mebubarbital, methyl pentynol reserpine or chlorpromazine, with pharmaceutical carriers. Preparations may be in the form of tablets, capsules and suppositories in which the active materials are mixed with cocoa butter or a polyethylene glycol polymer.
