842,584. Voltage and current measurements. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Dec. 5, 1958 [Dec. 17, 1957], No. 39211/57. Class 37. Voltage or current in the circuit of a D.C. energised arc apparatus 15 is measured and recorded by means of a thermocouple 21 or thermocouples 12, 13 having heaters respectively connected across the arc and across a resistor 14 in series with the arc and whose output are selectable by a switch 19 for connection to a self balancing potentiometric recorder 16, 17. The series outputs of thermocouples 12, 13 are a measure of the square of the arc current and the output of thermocouple 21 is a measure of the square of the arc voltage. The thermal insulation between the heaters and the respective thermocouples 12, 13, 21 and the thermal capacities of the heaters reduce the noise level in the thermocouples outputs, a low pass filter 18 further reducing the noise level at the input to amplifier 17.
