Abstract
842,456. Eyepieces. DEUTSCHER DEMOKRATISCHER RUNDFUNK BETRIEBSLABORATORIUM FUR RUNDFUNK UND FERNSEHEN. Dec. 19, 1956, No. 38748/56. Class 97(1) A viewing device for optical instruments such as microscopes, telescopes or viewfinders comprises an eyepiece and a housing or viewing tube the inner surface of which is adapted to be illuminated by incident light from inside the tube or by transmitted light from outside so that the illuminated surfaces appear to the eye with a brightness equal to the mean brightness of the image produced by the instrument, the said image being surrounded by an illuminated field corresponding in size to the visual angle of the human eye. As shown the image to be viewed is projected by a lens I on to a field lens 2 and is viewed through an eyepiece 3. The viewing tube 5 is of spherical form and is made of semitransparent glass or plastic. It may, however, be opaque. Lamps 7 illuminate the inner surface of the sphere so that the eye 4 sees the image on the lens 2 surrounded by an equally illuminated area. The non-viewing eye may be provided with a similarly illuminated chamber. The lamps 7 may be omitted, the tube 5 being translucent and illuminated externally. The illuminations may be controlled photo-electrically.
