A locking device for transportable containers particularly those on railway systems, provided with jacking-up devices on which the containers are supported with their wheels lifted off the ground, as well as brakes, comprises a stop bolt 6 which is urged into spaces 4 between the spokes 5 of the wheel 1 against the action of springs 8 by levers actuated by a cable 7 passing over a pulley and linked to the jacking-up devices, not shown, so that operation of the jacking-up device also applies the brake. A spring 9 is preferably interposed in the cable linkage 7.
