Abstract
841,286. Reciprocating pumps. POPE, J. A., and ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. March 3, 1958 [March 4, 1957], No. 7179/57. Class 102(1). A reciprocating pump comprises a plunger 30, reciprocated by an eccentric 14 in a cylinder 20, which delivers after the plunger has closed the inlet ports 24. The cylinder 20 is slidable in the pump body 17 and bears against a member 28 adjustably mounted in the body 17 such that axial movement of the member 28 causes axial movement of the cylinder and hence the position during the stroke at which the plunger closes the inlet ports 24. The cylinder may bear against the member 28 either due to the pressure in the cylinder or by a lock nut 29 screwed to the outlet 23 which is attached to the cylinder. Stops 34 are provided to limit the movement of the cylinder in one direction. Two pumps may be mounted on opposite sides of a driving shaft carrying two eccentrics.
