Abstract
840,962. Pneumatic separating. STEELE, W., and ALLAN, R. Sept. 25, 1957 [June 25, 1956], No. 19539/56. Class 117 [Also in Group I] A potato harvester (see Group I) includes an air separator for removing stones from potatoes which are fed to an inclined shoot 21 from a shaking riddle 18. The separator includes an air compresser 22 driven by an I.C. engine 23 which feeds air to a box 25, Figs. 3 and 7, having nozzles 24 directed upwards towards a gap 29 in the underside of the shoot and across the mouth of an exit 26 for the stones. Potatoes pass over the gap to a ledge 28 and are carried away by an elevator 30, whereas the stones fall through the gap and from the exit 26. A grid-like floor 24A, Fig. 7, protects the nozzles from the falling stones.
