Abstract

840,491. Castings. ALUMINIUM LABORATORIES Ltd. March 26, 1959 [April 1, 1958], No. 10424/58. Class 83 (1). [Also in Group XVII] An ingot for bundling, comprises a rectangular base portion 1 and an upwardlyprojecting rectangular rib portion 2 narrower than the base portion so as to provide a platform 3 on each side of the rib portion along the long edges of the base portion, the platforms having interengageable formations preventing relative longitudinal movement of two adjacent ingots in the same layer of a stack. In each layer alternate ingots are in an inverted position in relation to the ingots on either side, and each ingot is in an inverted position in relation to the ingots immediately above and below it. The interengageable formations comprise a raised projection 10 symmetrically arranged about the mid-point of one platform, and a correspondingly shaped and located recess 11 in the other platform. The platforms are inwardly inclined so that when two ingots are placed face-toface, Fig. 4, they define a dovetail recess. The rib is provided adjacent the ends with a tooth 5 and a corresponding recess 6. Cut-away portions 12, 14 receive bindings. The faces of the ingot which contact the mould are inclined in such a manner that contraction differences between the mould and the ingot create an automatic ejecting force.
