Abstract

Articles are coated by forming a homogeneous mixture of a thermoplastic powder and a pigment, and dipping the pre-heated articles into a fluidized bed of the mixture. Fluidization is brought about by a stream of air or inert gas. Suitable plastics are polyethylene and polyamides; a suitable pigment is chromium oxide. From 8 to 12% of the pigment may be added to the plastic and mixed in a mortar or ball mill, or by blowing simultaneously against a metal plate. The coating may be applied to thin-walled articles such as cans. Specification 838,738 is referred to.
